You Are Not Stuck Where You Are Unless You Decide To Be.
Posted by: | CommentsWe create our own reality. We decide who we are and what we will become . . . what we will accomplish.
Those of you what worry all the time are convinced your fears will come true. And they do. Because your conviction causes you to act to make it happen.
Conversely, if you are convinced that positive things will happen, they do. Believe me, that’s a lot more fun!
We all program our brains for success or failure in each and every thing we do. That includes our relationships, jobs, sports and businesses.
For example, many people believe that the American economy is suffering through a recession. I don’t know because I don’t pay any attention. I don’t care.
Quite simply, I choose not to participate in anything negative.
After the tragic events of 9/11, I was asked by many people if this would have a negative effect on business. The obvious answer is yes. For small business owners, it’s always our choice. We can make it good or bad.
You see, all people are self made. Only successful people admit it. Think about it. You’ve seen and heard the phrase “self made millionaire” countless times. How many times have you seen or heard “self made failure”?
To paraphrase a line that I first heard in Carleton Sheets’ infomercial, the best way to ensure your future is to create it.
Let’s make sure you create a great future!
Yours in success,
Shawn

We bought the domain Daleee.com a few days ago for $60 because we thought it looked pretty good with 663 existing links. BAM! We get an email from someone who didn’t pay attention and missed all the notices to renew the domain registration. Sold it back to him for Read More→

Little Changes Can Yield Big Results
Posted by: | CommentsAs my regular readers know, I consider consistent testing of your marketing to be crucial to your success.
How much testing is enough? You can never test too much. You’re never done. I know we test more ideas, concepts, ads and sales copy than most people. We still don’t do enough.
Many of the concepts we test are simply small changes. We’ll try a new headline, or rewrite an ad. We recently tested a new lead in to the sales letter on a website. Not a big change, but preliminary indications suggest an increase of 45-50% in the conversion rate.
If you have a marketing system that works, don’t stop now. Keep trying new things, even if they’re small.
Every time we test, we learn something … good or bad. The learning part is important. So much of success in business has nothing to do with the economics they teach you in business school. This is especially true for us small business people.
Instead, you’ll find a large part of your success comes from testing new ideas. Measure and track your results. Stop doing what does not work. Do more of what does work.
I know that sounds simple. That’s because it is simple!
Many of you are intimidated by business and the Internet, but you should not be. If you use the methods I use, then you take very little risk in anything you do to promote your business. That means that any mistake you make is a small one. It can’t hurt you.
The real mistake you make is not consistently trying new ideas and continually working to improve your business. That’s a much bigger mistake than any attempt you make that doesn’t work.
So, your continuing mission is simple. Test. Measure. Tweak. Repeat.

Shawn
The Right Way To Keep Track Of Your Success
Posted by: | CommentsLet’s say you’ve got 2 different offers you can place on your website or in your newsletter. The first offer pays $10 per sale. The second offer pays $1.00 per lead.
Which one should you use? The obvious answer is the one that makes you more money, of course. The truth is that you won’t know the real answer until you test and track your results.
As you get to know your core audience, you can improve your chances of guessing right the first time. Here’s some more ideas to consider:
1. What kind of offer are you making people?
Here’s 2 choices of headlines:
- Win $1,000,000! Click Here.
- Learn How To Make Money On the Internet
Which headline do you think more people will click on? Having run similar tests, I can promise you that more people are looking for a free million bucks than to work at making money. But, the number of clicks is only one factor.
2. How much does each money do you earn from each click?
To continue with the scenario above. The $1,000,000 headline earns you $1.00 for every new person who enters their contest. The second headline sells a product that earns you $10 per sale.
I like to break these numbers down further to the payment per click. The $1,000,000 offer has a conversion rate of 7%. This means that 7% of the people who click on the ad will be new people who enter the contest. If you multiply the 7% times the $1.00 per lead payment, you get $0.07 per click.
The money making offer has a conversion rate of 2%. If 2% of all people who click on the ad will purchase the product, then you earn 2% of $10 per click. That’s $0.20 per click.
So, here’s what we know . . .
More people will click on the $1,000,000 headline. Each click earns you $0.07.
Less people will click on the money making ad. Each click earns you $0.20.
The only question remaining (ready to guess?) is whether or not about 3 times as many people will click the first ad versus the second ad.
Obviously, the results will tell the true tale over time. If you want to make an educated guess, then look at the source of the people who are potential clickers.
If these people are referrals from a sweepstakes site, then you know they are more likely to be interested in a free chance at winning than the average person. If the people are visiting your site to learn about starting a business, then they would lean more towards the money making offer than the average person.
Why does all this matter? Because these pennies add up to big bucks for your business!

Shawn
