Everyone talks about driving traffic to your website. Some say it’s easy; others claim that it is extremely difficult. Getting traffic to your website is easy if you take the right path and know the correct turns to make.

With so many articles, YouTube videos, and blogs boasting tips and strategies on ways to create more traffic, who knows who to believe? We’ve all seen the advertisements. “How I Got 10,000 Visitors to My Websites in 24 Hours,” followed by a fuzzy PayPal copy of sales derived from all of these visitors. While many of the top Internet marketers can pull something like that off because they have a massive following, your average Internet marketer cannot, at least not in 24 hours.

Driving traffic to your website takes time, especially if you are fairly new, but it’s not impossible. If you want to speed up the process of getting traffic to your website, make note of these few tips that are used by the top Internet marketers.

Get a Domain Name

You want to be taken seriously, right? Well get a domain name for your business. Using free domains are great for seasonal launches or something that will be short-lived, but for the core of your business, you want to appear as professional as possible.

Research Does Matter

Before you even begin to think about driving traffic, you must do your homework. Picking the right niche is critical in the success of your business. Your research should include your niche, your keywords, as well as your competition. Yes, you want to know what your competition is doing so you can do it better.

Easy Website Navigation

You want to make sure that your website is clean and crisp. Be mindful of loading times when adding Flash designs to your website. Your website will be a reflection of you and your personality. You want it to stand out, but not like a sore thumb.

Your visitors should be able to easily navigate through your site as well as your checkout. Visitors will not complete a sale if the checkout process is a difficult one. You want to make it as easy as possible for them.

Content, Content, Content

Some say add one page of content per day, but you could go with once every few days, or three to four times a week. Make sure your content is original and informative. Readers like information that they can use – something to enlighten them, or perhaps a new product or the latest news.

Get Those Links

Links increase your rankings with the search engines, so you want to get as many as possible, but they should only be quality links relevant to your website. If you’re selling vitamins, a link promoting party supplies would be of no value to you. Linking to websites that are in your niche, but not direct competition are the most beneficial. The more established websites (ones that have been around a long time) you can link to, the better.

Search Engine Directories

Submit your website to the search engine directories. Sometimes it may take a while for them to list you, so don’t waste time wondering why nothing has happened after a few days.

All of the tips mentioned above will help in getting traffic to your website. You can also add affiliate links and Google AdSense to your website to increase your earning potential. Nothing happens overnight, but I would almost put money on it that if you follow these strategies, you will see increased traffic.

Online vs. Offline Listbuilding

Posted by: Shawn Casey | Comments (0)

As one can easily see by the number of people opting to do business online, the Internet marketing business is booming. From small storefront owners to big corporations, everyone is moving some aspect of their business online to catch the marketing wave. Now let’s take a moment to compare online vs. offline listbuilding and see which one works best.

For the business owner with a physical store location, the normal methods of marketing in the past have included mass mailings, telephone soliciting, and even some resorting to a visit to the local mall to put flyers on the windows of cars. As you can imagine, this takes a lot of time and effort, not to mention the cost of the employees who are actually doing all of the work.

Now let’s think about Internet marketing – building a list and reaching a large audience. You create a website, select your products or services, and drive traffic to this website. Once a visitor is there, you provide them with quality content, products they can use, and an opt-in page to your mailing list. Don’t forget to mention the benefits of becoming a subscriber – a free newsletter, a free DVD, entrance into a drawing, a free e-book – something that they cannot pass up.

Comparing Traditional and Online Listbuilding

If a store owner mailed out information, he or she may already have a list, unless the list was purchased. In that case, someone now has to call all of these people to follow up with them. The people who are interested will probably get put into a system of some sort and their information stored for future reference. If flyers were handed out in stores or door-to-door, there is no way to follow up and you have to hope that people will inquire about your products or services.

Now let’s try this online. Everyone that subscribed to your mailing list had to provide an e-mail address. By setting up a simple auto responder, you can reach your target audience with a quick e-mail. This can be to say hello, send announcements, special offers, sales – anything you choose. You can even set up a series of e-mails to be sent out at a specific time. So for the Internet marketer, once you set up an auto responder, you could be away on vacation and your subscribers can get e-mails on a certain day.

Listbuilding is one of the most powerful ways to market to your customers; it’s how you market to them that determines how difficult or easy the process is. As you can see how much work it takes for an offline business owner to reach their customers, it’s easy to see why everyone is moving their businesses online, even if only for marketing purposes.

The greatest benefit of providing an opt-in box on your website is that you know that the subscribers have at least some interest in what you are selling. Once you have a list, you can start out with small, low-priced products or low-cost services and gradually build up as you build a relationship with them.

Anyone who does not have a list or plans to start building one will definitely be hurting their profit potential.

All Internet marketers know the importance of good quality traffic. This is the single most important factor in the success of your online business. The biggest problem new Internet marketers face is driving traffic to their products. Getting traffic to your website requires a plan, but it can be accomplished even with little or no money.

When discussing generating traffic, a frequently asked question always comes up. How do I get traffic to my website? Well, we all know it can be expensive and pretty time consuming to drive quality targeted traffic to your website. One thing to remember is that paying to get high quality targeted traffic is not necessarily the only option. Free traffic works just as well; it just takes a little more time to get the ball rolling. If you are working on a small budget, you certainly don’t want to spend it on driving traffic, so let’s review a few different ways you can drive traffic to your website, whether you have a big budget, a small budge, or no budget.

Writing Articles

Article marketing has become very popular among Internet marketers for promoting their products and driving traffic to their website. Writing about topics related to your niche and using the resource box to provide your contact information is a free and easy way to advertise. This strategy works best if you can submit a few articles every week to the top-ranked article directories. This gives your content maximum exposure. Writing articles is another way to build credibility in your particular niche and can prove beneficial later on if you want to write an e-book or special report about your niche.

Traffic Exchange

Traffic exchange or “Hit Exchange,” is receiving exposure for your website by viewing ads on other websites. This is a great way to get your products viewed across the World Wide Web, as well as a chance to see what other people are promoting. You can also get an idea of how your competition is marketing their products.
To participate in most traffic exchange programs, you have to join and open an account. You view different websites and in return your site is being viewed by others. If you actively participate in the program, you can generate a steady stream of traffic to your website.

Forums/Message Boards

Joining and participating in forums and message boards is a great way to create an online presence. Of course, you want to join forums that are related to your interests. Asking questions and leaving comments frequently will peak the interest of others in your niche and they will check your signature box for more information about you. This is where you add your website URL, which will direct them to your website. The more you interact, the more traffic you will get.

Blogs/Social Networking

Social networking is the fastest way to build a name for yourself. Again, you must participate and leave real comments – not just, “Liked your page.” If you want to utilize the power of a blog, you need to be prepared to provide frequent posts. People lose interest rather quickly, and with a million other blogs to choose from, you can find that you are receiving no traffic if you don’t keep your blog updated.

You can pay for driving traffic to your website, or you spend a little time and do it yourself for free. Don’t believe people who say free traffic doesn’t work; those are usually the people who don’t have the patience to make it work. You can do it!

Anyone doing business online has one goal in mind – to make money. There are a number of ways to do this, and more ways are being created every day. With so much competition in the world of Internet marketing, you now have to be more creative with strategies to win the grand prize – customers. Effective listbuilding on in the Internet is one place to start. Creating a list of subscribers who are interested in your products or services gives you the upper hand over those who are simply promoting.

Benefits of Building a List

The top benefit for building a list is that you have a group of individuals who are already pre-screened, so to speak. If you have a list of people who trust you and like your products, you can send them e-mails when you promote new launches, when you have specials or sales, or when you just want to update them on what’s going on. This is a great way to keep your business fresh in their minds and build a relationship with them.

Another great benefit of building a list is the opportunity to use it as leverage for swapping lists. They say the money is in the list, so if you have a massive list of individuals, you can approach another marketer or business owner and offer them a chance to promote to your list and vice versa. This can also be a great way to start building a name for yourself in your niche.

Getting Them to Subscribe

You can drive all the traffic in the world to your page, but getting them to subscribe is a different story. The easiest way to get people to subscribe is to make them an offer they can’t refuse. “Ten Easy Ways to Do Whatever,” or “Free Report” on your niche – something filled with information that they will find useful.

To get started, you simply need to create a squeeze page so visitors can opt in. It is also best if you offer a double opt-in, which is a confirmation sent to the e-mail address they used to sign up. This eliminates bogus e-mail addresses just to get your free product. Don’t forget your opt-out page, just in case they want to opt-out at some point.

Keeping Them Interested

Once you start building a list, you want to keep your subscribers interested. The one thing that you never want to do is fill their inboxes with useless information. You want to send them quality content on a frequent basis – just enough to keep them interested. “Ten Tips to Make Your Life Easier,” a “Free Newsletter,” things that they don’t mind getting. Remember, just as quickly as they opted in, they could also opt out.

By sending useful information that your subscribers can use, they will look forward to hearing from you and they may even recommend their friends to subscribe. Growing your list does not happen overnight, but it will happen over time.

The first step to any marketing campaign is product research. You must choose the right products in order to make money. This is no secret. The wrong product choices mean that no one will buy them, which equals no money. There are a number of different marketing strategies – some work, some don’t. It depends on the individual and their specific game plan. If you want to consider a nice steady income, consider combining affiliate marketing and article marketing. It may sound a bit strange, but it works, and it can be profitable.

How Can This Make Money

In order for this strategy to work, you have to choose a hot niche. Something that everyone is interested in right now – stimulus checks, gas prices, layoffs, 2009 Dog Shows. Again, it has to be something that people are interested in. This can be an ongoing problem or issue, a current topic, health and wellness-related, etc.

This is where product research comes into play. If you want to find out what’s hot, check out Google Trends, Google News, or even the watch the news. You can also check out magazines – online and offline. Visit your local bookstore and see what the number one seller is. Listen to what people around you are talking about. Finding out what people want to read about is the key to making money through article marketing.

Create a Consistent Campaign

Once you have chosen your hot topic, here’s where the real work begins. This is also where most people drop the ball. Most people create a few great articles, become an affiliate, and that’s it. There is no promoting, no creating more articles, nothing. If it makes money fine; if not, it’s pretty much forgotten about. In order to be successful, you have to keep working at it – every day, in fact. Even if you do one article a day, in five days you will have five articles (or seven if you work weekends). Can you sell a batch of five articles? Of course you can, and if it’s a hot topic, people will buy them.

Now, if you take those articles and approach an affiliate program, your articles then become affiliate products. Another great option is selling your articles as PLR. Someone can purchase your articles and create an e-book, a report, or whatever they’d like. You can do this over and over again to keep the money rolling in.

This is a great way to make quick money, especially if you already have people interested in your articles. The more you write, the more you can make – especially when you have a topic that people are interested in and you combine affiliate marketing and article marketing.

When building a list through e-mailing it is important to remember that SPAM is the quickest way to get someone to block you, opt-out, or even bad mouth you across the Internet. Effective listbuilding with e-mailing is quite simple and easy to do, and what was once a difficult task—reaching subscribers all at once—has been simplified through e-mail.

It is easier than ever to e-mail promotions, newsletters, sales, special offers, etc. and reach your target audience with a click of the mouse. Now that most e-mails can display HTML code within the body of the e-mail, it is possible to create professional e-mail ads in no time at all. What’s even better is that once you create it, you can save it as a template and revise it for the next advertisement. This works in your favor in two ways:

  • You save time designing advertisements.
  • You can have a template with your unique touch already at your fingertips.

With the amount of money you can save by doing this yourself, you can invest it into expanding your products or do something nice for yourself.

How To Capture the Email

Now that your plan is in place, all you need are the e-mail addresses. How to do you get these?

We’ve all seen e-mail capture forms or opt-in boxes “Sign-up here…” or “Join My Mailing List…” These are all ways of collecting e-mail addresses. Now you have to do something to get them to sign up, so how about a free gift, free updates, newsletters, etc.? These are all strategies to get someone to opt-in or subscribe to your mailing list. Everyone likes getting something for free, so take advantage of the opportunity as you build your list.

Remember, this doesn’t have to be something of great value; it has to be something that your potential subscribers find useful. Information about your niche is always a great teaser, as are newsletters.

Auto Responder Is A Must

When starting a mailing list, an auto responder is a must. This allows you to quickly send e-mails to everyone on your list as well as automatically respond to certain e-mails based on the mail received. With an auto responder, you create e-mails in advance and set them up to go out on a specific day or in response to certain e-mails. This is a necessity for the Internet marketer. It is a way to communicate effectively with your subscribers.

The best thing about gathering a list of subscribers is that you know they are interested in your products or services – why else would they have signed up? Your subscribers are the best targeted group of people that you can sell to, and as you can imagine, it can save you a significant amount of time when promoting new products or services.

If you’ve been thinking about starting a list, stop thinking and get moving on it. It takes some time to get it up and going (auto responder), but once you do, you will see the benefits of listbuilding can pay off over and over again.
