A Few Ways to Not Bring in Traffic

There’s a market out there where people actually will sell and trade traffic. No kidding. Now, it’s true that these will theoretically bring in more traffic, it’s just traffic. You will get viewers, but in all likelihood, they’re only going to look at your page for a couple of seconds and move on.

The first kind of traffic market is traffic trading. The idea is that you go to a site such as Link Referral or Traffic Swarm. Then, in exchange for looking at the sites they want you to see, you get a ton of traffic.

Now, let’s think a minute. If you went to one of these sites with the idea of increasing your traffic for minimal effort, as you probably would, how much attention would you pay to the sites you were obligated to look at?

Probably not a lot. You would probably just breeze by as many as you needed to as quickly as you could, right? Guess what? Just about everyone else that visits that site and gets referred to yours will probably be thinking of it in the same way. So, yes, you increased visitors, but it’s all a waste of bandwidth.

The same is true if you buy traffic. The benefit of buying traffic from a sales site is that you don’t have to go scanning over so many Web pages to get your traffic. The problem is that these people are just as likely as the traded traffic to actually stop and buy your product. Ultimately, traffic is nothing compared to opt ins and buyers.

Now, you may think that if you get them there, your sales page is so excellent that they’ll have to buy. I’m sorry to say, but no sales page is good enough to catch the glazed over eye of someone just looking at a page because they have to. Odds are, they most likely will not care about your product anyway.

Then we have Pay-Per-Click. Here, you basically pay Google by the click to give you a special spot in the Sponsored Ads. This is a highly risky venture if you don’t know what you’re doing. You absolutely have to be on top of your game with keywords to make sure that it works. Otherwise, you will not only lose money by lack of sales, but you can lose a ton of money if people click through and don’t buy your product.

In the end, we’re left with good ol’ SEO. It’s the most secure method of getting good traffic, but the face of SEO is changing, and you have to have a good B.S. meter to pick through all the out of date information and myths about what’s going on. If you don’t have that, you better hire a good SEO company to do it for you.

Ultimately, the reason SEO is the best is that you’re more likely to get targeted traffic, the people you want, on your website. Think of it—they’re on the search engine looking for “something,” and it’s your Web page that provides it. Ka-Ching!
