Affiliate Marketing Pitfalls That Slow Your Progress

By Shawn Casey

Affiliate marketing is the easiest way to earn money from your own home, but there are a few pitfalls you should try to avoid that could slow your progress.  If you are new to affiliate marketing (or even not-so-new), these tips will help you achieve better results for your efforts.

Research the program before you put in a ton of effort

Before you start building a website around a particular product – or group of products – make sure that you can promote it.  There are some merchants that require affiliates to have a website and a certain level of consistent travel before they will let you join!

Imagine building a website in anticipation of promoting a product, only to find that you cannot promote it because you don’t get enough traffic. Perform your due diligence, and do the research before doing all of the work.

Patience reaps great – and profitable – rewards

Many new affiliates simply have no patience.  If you assumed that you could throw up a blog or site, find a product or two, and start raking in the dough, you’re mistaken.

In order to be successful with affiliate marketing, put some effort into building a real business and choosing good products.  Work on your business, and don’t throw in the towel because you have been at it for two weeks and haven’t made a dozen sales.  Success takes time…and lots of focus.

Choose relevant offers

Consider the mindset of those who will be visiting your site before you choose your product/offer.  Don’t choose a product simply because it has the highest EPC (earnings per 100 clicks).  Make sure that the product/service you promote is relevant to the content of your site.

It’s a good idea to test a variety of products/offers to see which converts best for you.

Avoid these pitfalls, and you will see more success in your affiliate marketing campaigns.
