List Building – Even in the Age of Social Networking, It’s the Most Important Marketing Tool

By Shawn Casey

With the growth of social networking, some marketers have allowed their list building efforts to slip through the cracks.  Even though you put your business in front of thousands of people, list building is still the most essential element of your marketing campaigns!  Without it, your success is only a portion of its potential.

Social networking allows you to build an even bigger list of subscribers

Today, more than 500,000,000 people use Facebook to communicate with friends, family members, and for business purposes.  Sure, you can be seen and share your business information with your friends, but you desperately need their e-mail addresses!  Communicating through an e-mail marketing campaign is much more personal than simply posting messages or ads on social networking sites.  By including a link to your opt-in box on these sites, you can build your list in a fraction of the time.

The money is still in the list!

No matter what other marketing tactics you use, list building is still the most important.  By having people who are interested in your offer join your list, you have the opportunity to market your products/services to those people for as long as they remain on your list.

It is a proven fact that most people will not purchase until they have been exposed to your offer about six or seven times.  Sending messages to your list makes this easy.

Seek out specific communities to grow your list fast

Today, there are many communities you can join that are closely related to your chosen niche.  This means that you can connect with people who share your interests, which makes growing your list even easier.  For example, if your niche is SEO or some other type of marketing, you can seek out communities that are built around those topics.

List building should never take a back seat to social networking. Use it to your advantage!
