Use Affiliate Marketing to Jumpstart Your Business

Did you know that it is possible to start an online business even if you don’t have your own products? This is easy to do when you use affiliate marketing to jumpstart your business to get you going.

Many individuals hold off on working online because they don’t have anything to sell, but what they don’t know is that you don’t need anything; you can use other people’s products through affiliate marketing.

There are hundreds, perhaps even thousands of affiliate programs just waiting for you to join, and contrary to what you may have heard; this is not just limited to e-books and downloadable audio products that have no value. In fact, affiliate programs also have high-end products that you can sell in addition to your traditional downloadable items.

To start, you will need two things:
1. A place to promote your products; a website or blog
2. Products to promote

Finding the right affiliate program takes some investigating, because there is more than finding great products. You also have to know the company’s reputation, their payout schedule, your commission for the sales you make, and what tools and strategies they have available for you to use. The reason why most internet marketers start with affiliate programs is because it’s so easy to get started. Most companies have banners, and even sales pages, ready for you to start promoting.

Of course, driving the traffic to your site is your job, so you will have to learn how to get people to your site. This can be done in many different ways:

1. Advertising through your blog
2. Forums and social networking sites
3. Social bookmarking
4. Pay per click

If you have a blog, you have control and it’s easy to promote your products, but don’t forget about the content – it must be related to your niche and compelling so your visitors will trust you and feel comfortable buying from you.

Forums and social networking sites are a great way to spread the word about your products. With most forums, there is a section for selling products/services where you can promote, but before you do that, you will need to participate in the forums and create a name for yourself so people know who you are. Most people won’t buy from strangers, so be the social butterfly and stand out.

Social bookmarking can be tedious, but there are tools available that make bookmarking a breeze. If you find that you just don’t have the time, hire someone to handle the task. This doesn’t mean that you have to go out and spend all of your savings, perhaps you have teenagers or college students who want to make a few dollars for the summer.

Pay per click takes some know how, and it does cost, but it will be worth the effort to have your ads being seen across the internet.

Regardless of how you get traffic, if you use affiliate marketing to jumpstart your business and promote your products to a targeted group of individuals, you can be an internet marketing success.

Whats the Secret to Getting Traffic to Your Website

Every successful internet marketer has some special formula or special way of driving people to their site. Sometimes it’s just the name they’ve built for themselves and other times, there are tools or strategies that they use. So what’s the secret to getting traffic to your website?

Truth is there is no secret, no special formula, no magic traffic button – getting traffic comes from getting noticed and being respected within your niche. Of course the big gurus can drive traffic with a blink of an eye because people know them, they respect them, and they know the value of their products or services, but what about the beginner? What about the person that’s just starting out and no one knows them; how do they start getting traffic to their website?

There are a few proven ways that you can do this:

Create a blog – Starting a blog seems easy enough, but that’s the easy part. It’s keeping the blog up to date with fresh content and information that people want to hear about that gets people to come to you. In the beginning, you will have no traffic, but if you continue to add content – good content, you will notice a rise in the number of visitors reading your blog.

Your blog should be related to your products, and don’t forget the links to redirect visitors to your web pages. In short, you have to build a reputation for yourself. Who are you among the millions of marketers on the internet? You have to build trust and let the World Wide Web know that you are knowledgeable in your niche.

Don’t forget to include an opt-in page on your blog, so visitors can subscribe to your list.

Forums – You can find a forum on just about any topic under the sun. One important thing to remember when joining forums is that you must be interactive. You have to ask questions, answer questions, and actually participate. When your name keeps popping up in a particular niche, people will start to recognize you as one of the leaders. When you join a forum, you have the opportunity to add a link to your page within your bio, so don’t forget to take full advantage of that or people will have no way to know way to get to your products.

Web 2.0 – Web 2.0 properties covers a wide range of different platforms. Social media, social bookmarking, Squidoo lenses, Hub pages – all opportunities for you to participate and get your name out there. In order to be successful using any Web 2.0 properties is you have to interact. One book mark or one Squidoo lens will quickly get lost, so you have to participate and be consistent.

Getting traffic to your website may take a little time, but if your product is good, and you can attract an audience, you will see the visitors start rolling in. It’s important that your web pages are inviting, easy to navigate through, and straightforward. After all of your hard work in getting the traffic to come to you, you don’t want to scare them off with a poorly designed website.

Start Listbuilding before You Launch Your Product

Listbuilding, as most of us know, is the bread and butter of Internet marketing. It is the ever-coveted return traffic that we’re all looking for. If you’re just starting with building your list, there are some things you should know.

The greatest mistake a person can make when they launch a business website is to think that they can just throw it up and expect that the traffic will come. Yes, an opt-in form is the ideal way to get your listbuilding up. Yes, a good squeeze page is the way to get them to sign on to the list. However, you shouldn’t think that this starts with your product launch.

You should actually start your listbuilding BEFORE you launch your product. You may have surmised that you should advertise your product before launching it. This is true, but you should already have your squeeze page up, and you should link to the squeeze page in your advertisements.

This provides an avenue for you to interact with your new list before the ball really gets to rolling. During this time, you can generate more excitement about your product in your emails. This way, you can accomplish three goals.

First, you can convince the wary few who didn’t actually buy your product to do so. Many times, people are interested in hearing about a product, and would like more information before they actually buy it. If you start this when the product launches rather than before, you may miss out on several sells you would have otherwise.

Secondly, you can win upsells from those who have already bought the product. If they’ve already bought your service, why not try and get more out of them? In the emails you send out before the product launches, you can tease them with the benefits of “platinum membership,” or the “secret stash” of videos you have.

Thirdly, if the wary subscribers aren’t buying the normal membership, you can try to downsell them. You will usually want to present a smaller package with fewer benefits. Do this in the last days before the product launches, and make it clear that although this product is cheaper, they get a lesser product.

Of course, the last option shouldn’t be made visible to the people who have already bought the product. This can put you in a quandary of having to cancel accounts in preference of the downsells. People want to save money, and that can often be at the expense of quality. Make sure that if they buy the standard, or especially the platinum membership, the downsell emails do not make it to them. You would be shooting yourself in the foot otherwise.

With these ideas in mind, make sure that you don’t forget to include a link to your squeeze page in your advertisements leading up to your launch. It will be well worth your while, and as you can see, you can make so much more cash that way.

Listbuilding Is the Heart of Drawing Traffic to Your Site

Much emphasis has been made of the importance of listbuilding among Internet marketers. It’s no small wonder, really. It’s the means of getting repeat customers, and it can take some of the pressure off of making “the best sales page evar!”

Listbuilding is the virtual workhorse of Internet marketing. As such, it is something to be built and cultivated over the long term. In fact, you need to keep up with your list throughout your career.

There are good practices and bad practices in listbuilding. Remember, this isn’t just some fly by night venture we’re talking about here. You want to keep adding people to your list, but more importantly, you want to keep them on it.

First of all, never never EVER buy a list. While it may have some immediate results in your listbuilding, most people on the list are probably already tired of being solicited by this business, that one, or the other. Your emails will probably land directly in their Bulk folder, if they haven’t already unsubscribed from the list before you get it.

Another mostly ineffective method of listbuilding is buying certain mass mailing programs. Some of these programs will browse email membership lists and solicit your product to the email addresses they find. This puts you directly in the same category as telemarketers in most people’s minds. It’s a quick way to get ignored.

Probably the most elegant way of listbuilding is having an opt-in form on your website. This allows the users to voluntarily accept your solicitations. Now that you have their attention, you’d better know how to handle them.

You should first have an email response ready in the event that they don’t buy your product. The point of listbuilding, after all, is to get people to buy your stuff. While you can certainly persist in trying to get them to buy the product, don’t spam them with your solicitations. That’s a quick way to lose your list.

You should also have update emails about the product for the people who decided to buy it. Again, with the interest of retention in listbuilding, you should keep them interested in your product. Send them their login info this way, announce live events, maybe give little bits of advice on how to use the product.

Of course, a great part of listbuilding is that once you have a list started, you can promote other products. Chances are, if you want to live for very long as a marketer, you will want to promote other products. If you’ve done your job in winning your list members’ trust, you will have people already disposed to buy your new product! Much of the loyalty you gain from your list will be won by other elements of your product, but it’s no less important to use your mailings this way as well.

If you do your listbuilding right, you will notice something over time. Your future products will sell out quicker, or they will have at least an increased conversion rate. Naturally, there will be some who don’t follow you from product to product, and some may opt out. But if you’re good at it, you will only see an increasingly larger list.

Getting Traffic To Your website is Easy If You Take the Right Path

Everyone talks about driving traffic to your website. Some say it’s easy; others claim that it is extremely difficult. Getting traffic to your website is easy if you take the right path and know the correct turns to make.

With so many articles, YouTube videos, and blogs boasting tips and strategies on ways to create more traffic, who knows who to believe? We’ve all seen the advertisements. “How I Got 10,000 Visitors to My Websites in 24 Hours,” followed by a fuzzy PayPal copy of sales derived from all of these visitors. While many of the top Internet marketers can pull something like that off because they have a massive following, your average Internet marketer cannot, at least not in 24 hours.

Driving traffic to your website takes time, especially if you are fairly new, but it’s not impossible. If you want to speed up the process of getting traffic to your website, make note of these few tips that are used by the top Internet marketers.

Get a Domain Name

You want to be taken seriously, right? Well get a domain name for your business. Using free domains are great for seasonal launches or something that will be short-lived, but for the core of your business, you want to appear as professional as possible.

Research Does Matter

Before you even begin to think about driving traffic, you must do your homework. Picking the right niche is critical in the success of your business. Your research should include your niche, your keywords, as well as your competition. Yes, you want to know what your competition is doing so you can do it better.

Easy Website Navigation

You want to make sure that your website is clean and crisp. Be mindful of loading times when adding Flash designs to your website. Your website will be a reflection of you and your personality. You want it to stand out, but not like a sore thumb.

Your visitors should be able to easily navigate through your site as well as your checkout. Visitors will not complete a sale if the checkout process is a difficult one. You want to make it as easy as possible for them.

Content, Content, Content

Some say add one page of content per day, but you could go with once every few days, or three to four times a week. Make sure your content is original and informative. Readers like information that they can use – something to enlighten them, or perhaps a new product or the latest news.

Get Those Links

Links increase your rankings with the search engines, so you want to get as many as possible, but they should only be quality links relevant to your website. If you’re selling vitamins, a link promoting party supplies would be of no value to you. Linking to websites that are in your niche, but not direct competition are the most beneficial. The more established websites (ones that have been around a long time) you can link to, the better.

Search Engine Directories

Submit your website to the search engine directories. Sometimes it may take a while for them to list you, so don’t waste time wondering why nothing has happened after a few days.

All of the tips mentioned above will help in getting traffic to your website. You can also add affiliate links and Google AdSense to your website to increase your earning potential. Nothing happens overnight, but I would almost put money on it that if you follow these strategies, you will see increased traffic.

Getting Traffic to Your Website Requires A Plan

All Internet marketers know the importance of good quality traffic. This is the single most important factor in the success of your online business. The biggest problem new Internet marketers face is driving traffic to their products. Getting traffic to your website requires a plan, but it can be accomplished even with little or no money.

When discussing generating traffic, a frequently asked question always comes up. How do I get traffic to my website? Well, we all know it can be expensive and pretty time consuming to drive quality targeted traffic to your website. One thing to remember is that paying to get high quality targeted traffic is not necessarily the only option. Free traffic works just as well; it just takes a little more time to get the ball rolling. If you are working on a small budget, you certainly don’t want to spend it on driving traffic, so let’s review a few different ways you can drive traffic to your website, whether you have a big budget, a small budge, or no budget.

Writing Articles

Article marketing has become very popular among Internet marketers for promoting their products and driving traffic to their website. Writing about topics related to your niche and using the resource box to provide your contact information is a free and easy way to advertise. This strategy works best if you can submit a few articles every week to the top-ranked article directories. This gives your content maximum exposure. Writing articles is another way to build credibility in your particular niche and can prove beneficial later on if you want to write an e-book or special report about your niche.

Traffic Exchange

Traffic exchange or “Hit Exchange,” is receiving exposure for your website by viewing ads on other websites. This is a great way to get your products viewed across the World Wide Web, as well as a chance to see what other people are promoting. You can also get an idea of how your competition is marketing their products.
To participate in most traffic exchange programs, you have to join and open an account. You view different websites and in return your site is being viewed by others. If you actively participate in the program, you can generate a steady stream of traffic to your website.

Forums/Message Boards

Joining and participating in forums and message boards is a great way to create an online presence. Of course, you want to join forums that are related to your interests. Asking questions and leaving comments frequently will peak the interest of others in your niche and they will check your signature box for more information about you. This is where you add your website URL, which will direct them to your website. The more you interact, the more traffic you will get.

Blogs/Social Networking

Social networking is the fastest way to build a name for yourself. Again, you must participate and leave real comments – not just, “Liked your page.” If you want to utilize the power of a blog, you need to be prepared to provide frequent posts. People lose interest rather quickly, and with a million other blogs to choose from, you can find that you are receiving no traffic if you don’t keep your blog updated.

You can pay for driving traffic to your website, or you spend a little time and do it yourself for free. Don’t believe people who say free traffic doesn’t work; those are usually the people who don’t have the patience to make it work. You can do it!

You Can Make Money With Affiliate Marketing

The affiliate marketing concept asintroduced by Amazon has blossomed into a worldwide phenomenon. The partnership between merchants and affiliates has proven to a big hit among Internet marketers – sort of a melting pot with all sorts of products, merchants, and affiliates coming together to create one great source of income. You can make money with affiliate marketing, if you know what you’re doing. Hardly a get-rich-quick scheme, affiliate marketing can be an effective way of earning income on the Internet if set up and managed correctly.

The way affiliate marketing works is quite simple. A merchant promotes certain products or services online to create an affiliate program. An affiliate joins the program and promote these products and/or services on their website, blog, etc. by way of banner links, text links, or product links. When sales are made, commissions are paid to the affiliate. These commissions are predetermined and can be paid out upon capturing an email address, a home address, a name, a trial membership sign up, or purchasing an actual product. The specific requirements of individual products is made ahead of time, and the amounts vary according to the products. A cookie is placed within the links of the ad to track the amount of sales an affiliate makes and this is calculated to determine the commissions. Each affiliate program is different, as are the commissions, and payment methods.

Mistakes to Avoid

Many Internet marketers make the mistake of thinking that they can make quick money with affiliate marketing, and that’s just not the how it works. Take a look at some of the most common mistakes made, and make note of them so you don’t do the same thing.

Joining too many affiliate programs: Trying to promote too many products could leave you worn out and broke. Only take on what you can handle and focus on.

Picking the wrong affiliate: Study the affiliate programs before you join any of them. Compare them and make sure that they have what you are looking for. It is also important that you understand the guidelines and requirements of each program so you can earn as much money as possible.

Writing Sloppy Copy: We all want to get our products out there so we can start making money, but poor content does not sell! If you are not a copywriter, enlist the services of someone who can help you.

No Domain Name: You hear people say all the time that you don’t need a website or domain name to get started, but think of this – would you be more likely spend your hard-earned money on products from ABProducts.com or ABProducts.freewebsforall.com? If you want to be viewed as a professional, you must present yourself in that manner.

Know Your Products: How can you sell something that you know nothing about? Providing relevant copy shows that you’re knowledgeable about your products and creates more trust for the potential customer.

Affiliate marketing is not something that you can become a pro at overnight. It takes time to learn the business and how everything works. By avoiding these few mistakes, you will be one step ahead of those who fall into these deadly traps.

Learning the Strategies of Getting Traffic to Your Website

Once you have your website up and running, the adrenaline is probably flowing and you are so proud of your accomplishments. You did your keyword research and have chosen great keywords. You even have your AdSense ads positioned just right. Everything is clean and search engine friendly. The money should start rolling in any minute, right? Well, no. It takes more than putting up a killer website to make money; you need traffic – traffic that converts. Learning the strategies of getting traffic to your website is the missing piece of the puzzle here. Let’s take a moment to review just a few strategies that you can use to drive traffic to your new website.

Compelling Content

Late breaking news – everyone wants gossip. They all want to hear the latest so give it to them. What’s going on in the world? What’s the latest on some new product or big event? Once your visitors know that you will provide informative and juicy information on a consistent basis, they will keep coming back and your traffic will increase.

Social Bookmarking

If you don’t know the power of social bookmarking, this is definitely something worth looking into. Create content related to your niche and submit it to the major social bookmarking sites. Digg is a great place to start. If readers like your content, the will Digg it and your traffic will increase with the more Diggs you get.

Online Tools

Adding special tools for your visitors (such as loan calculators, niche generating tools, calorie counters, or fat calculators) that will prove helpful to them is a unique touch for your website. Once you have a special online tool, promote that in conjunction with your website.

Big Event Coverage

Cover a special event and include all the bells and whistles. For instance, if your niche is “AKA Registered Dogs,” cover a dog show and include snapshots of the event – the contestants, the runner-up, the winner. You can make this a recurring event or even have visitors sign up to receive notice of upcoming shows being covered.

Blogs

Creating a blog about your niche and linking it to your website will not only drive traffic to your website, it can also payoff big if done correctly. You can add RSS feeds and tag your posts. A blog can be one of the biggest marketing tools you can have for your online business, but remember, it does require attention. You have to update it consistently in order for this method of driving traffic to work.

These are just a few marketing strategies to increase traffic to your website. You can try one or two and see how they work, then add a couple more. If you remain consistent and continue to provide what people need and want, you will find that your traffic will increase significantly.

One thing to keep in mind is that it takes time to build traffic, so be patient. Before long, you will see a steady flow of traffic and hopefully a steady flow of sales to match. Remember that consistency is the key and that your website will require your attention on a regular basis. Failure to do so will result in little or no traffic.

Free Ways to Get Traffic to Your Website

One of the easiest ways to get more visitors is writing articles and blog posts frequently.

Whenever you post to your blog make sure you are pinging at least a dozen services. Any word press blog will let you add a ping listy. The free word press blogs automatically ping “Ping_O_Matic,” A service that in turns send out pings to other sites. For a free blog on blogger.com you can use “Ping_O_Matic,” or another ping service. There are quite a few of them out there so if one glitches on you, just find another one and use it.

Posting regular updates (once a day or even more often) to your blog will get you more visitors because people will get in the habit of regularly checking (either through visiting your blog or through their RSS reader) to see what’s new.

And posting to your bog is actually the easy writing you will ever do. You can be very informal and get away with it. You have to tighten up things a little when you write an article. Not much, but a little. After all, you want the article directories to accept your article to display on their sites and give you the exposure you want and the back links you are looking for

Posting to your blog can be a lot shorter, say 200 to 250 words. For an article you want to think 350 to 500 words.

Remember to link from within your blog posts to the sites you want the search engines to find a link to and so any visitors reading that particular blog entry will have that link right in front of them

So don’t think too much, just write. You want to get into the habit of spitting out a blog post in 5 minutes. Blog often and set up more than one blog if you want. To really establish a blog some ‘experts’ say you should post up to 5 times a day. But daily will get you some notice. You’ll want to spend your effort on other marketing strategies as part of a full business plan, right?

Are Paid Traffic Generation Methods Worth It?

There are several companies out there that provide traffic generation services of various types, usually for pretty large fees. Or there are free services that promise to bring you traffic if you visit a certain number of websites yourself. You may be wondering if these services are actually worth the money or time you’ll spend to get the traffic.

In my opinion, the answer to that is usually no. Now, I’m sure there are some good methods of paying for traffic (Pay Per Click is another topic in itself and is different than the services I am talking about here) out there, but in reality most of these traffic generation programs don’t get you the kind of traffic you really want.

The people who are clicking on links in exchange for getting paid or for getting traffic to their own sites aren’t really interested in the information you have to offer. They’re only interested in getting credit for visiting your site and getting on to the next site as quickly as possible.

The traffic you really want is people who are truly interested in the information, products and services you provide, people who will come to your site and stay for a while, reading the articles and blog posts and maybe even signing up for your newsletter.

While traffic generation programs may bring more traffic to your site, it’s not the kind of traffic that will help you in the long run. 1,000 hits to your site resulting in “0″ sales is not a good way to make money.

You need to focus your efforts on getting visitors who will actually pay attention to your content, who will come back to your site often and who will ultimately buy what you’re selling. That’s what is meant by “Targeted Traffic.” People who are actually interested in purchasing the product or service you are selling.

That’s the kind of traffic that will ultimately make your business a success and you can’t get it through a get-traffic-quick scheme.
