Affiliate marketing is what most new marketers choose to do when they first attempt to make money online.  Why is affiliate marketing so popular?  It’s relatively easy, you don’t have to spend much money to get started, and there’s no inventory to stock or customer complaints to deal with.  That being said, it isn’t always quite as easy as some purported “gurus” would have you think, and it’s easy to get overwhelmed with all of the information out there.  Here are a few tips that will make your campaigns more profitable.

Build a list – yes, it IS that important

List building isn’t only for those who sell their own product or service!  Once you have chosen a profitable niche and a good product, start off building a list.  In fact, you don’t even have to have the product yet.  By building a list, you can survey your subscribers to see what their biggest problems are. Then you can research and review affiliate products until you find the one that solves the biggest problems those on your list have.

Many people who start in affiliate marketing think they have to have the product first, and then build a list.  It really makes more sense to do it the other way around.

Choose and use your affiliate product before you market it on your site or blog

Can you imagine what might happen to your reputation if you were to go out there and choose an affiliate product, then start marketing it to your visitors before you ever know if it provides value?  If it turns out to be crap, you can be sure that those who bought from you will spread the word.  If you become known as someone who sells products just to make a buck, you may be doomed online.

Be honest and provide value

This is the most important thing to be successful with affiliate marketing.  Know your product, make honest recommendations, and provide real solutions and value to your customers and your list.  When you give good, you get good in return.
